5月7日 Has it really been two years!!!The other week I managed to drag most of you guys up Solihull for a couple of drinks, as I arranged a night out for the old UCI crew. Although we didn’t attract as many as a Dudley BBQ would have, we ended up with a decent turn out and a wicked night.
Its amazing how its been two years since they bulldozed the place, but time certainly does fly when your having fun… ;)
For anyone that didn’t make it I should be arranging another Dudley BBQ towards the end of the summer so do get in touch and I’ll keep you guys posted.
2月19日 The HD Gaming deal of the yearWell the other week I succumbed to months of window shopping and finally ‘jumped in’ to the HD gaming bandwagon. But it was well worth the wait as I ended up with the bargain of the year.
I’d spent ages popping round the shops and looking at bundles online before I decided on getting a 4 game bundle from Virgin Megastores in Birmingham. After spending ages trying to justify spending a whole heap of money to get a pack with an additional controller and a couple of games for about £344, I took the pack to the checkout only to be told that they were out of the Microsoft bundles that come with the extra stuff. Not to be hard done by I asked to see if there was anything that could be done considering I was still after that bundle. Well after some deliberation with the manager we managed to negotiate a deal where by I could pick what ever I wanted but still retain the same saving.
Lighting up my eyes I went on a bit of a rampage and picked the following stuff, saving about £180 of the rrp…
Xbox 360 with Pro Evo 6
Lost planet collectors edition
Gears of War
Wireless Bridge
3 months Gold Live
Tom Clancy Vegas Face plate
Plus, when the guy was ringing it up at the till I managed to convince him to apply a student discount bringing it down to the incredible price of £315. Which I’m sure you’ll agree was an absolute bargain…..
Did any of you guys get a bargain bundle deal?
So what did you do in the snow the other week? Its amazing how it only takes about a centimetre of snow coverage to bring the whole country to a stand still. Take last week for example, I got stuck in traffic for an hour and twenty minutes because of a sudden downfall of a hairs thickness and I was only travailing a coupe of mile back home. Its crazy, but what makes it even more nuts is the bastards knew it was going to snow for about a week…. Hehe
However, the day before I did manage to drag Adam’s kids out into the back garden for a couple of hours to help me make the biggest snow man I’ve ever made… standing at least 5 foot tall it dwarfed the kids. It was a truly awesome day as not only had they never seen snow on this scale before but it was the first snow man they’d even made. Amazing, but they did say it had been the deepest snow drop in about 10 years.
Which begs the question… How did you guys et on in last weeks not so sudden snow fall and what’s the biggest snowman you’ve even made?
2月5日 The poor old FiestaWell after seven years of a loving and relatively seamless relationship, I’m sad to say that the Fiesta has moved on to the big scrap heap in the sky.
As during a visit to Wolverhampton last week for a training course the Fiesta sparked an engine fire whilst I tried to park in a multi-storey car park. I managed to jump out to run for a fire extinguisher but buy the time I got back with help it was too late, the engine had caught fire leaving only a skinny frame after the fire brigade had reopened the shopping centre.
Although I was lucky that I was not on the road or anything when it sparked up, I did manage to loose a coat, jumper, phone, wallet and many other things to the fire as well as causing severe damage to some local cars. There was a Merc that had its rear lights melted, a Mondeo that doesn’t have a bumper any more and about 20 other cars that needed a wash.
As for the car park, I managed to cut the electricity to the floor as the car had burned through the overhead cables and I fused the car to the floor as it melted the rubberised floor. I know… it was quite a feat…plus the roof used to be white!
The damage and effect of the fire was so wide spread that it even managed to make front page of the local papers….
As for a car now…. Well its back to Ross’ Dawoo while I wait for Direct line to survey the total damage…. Not to worry though as you can always but another car.. ;)
2月2日 Tina… We’ll miss you!Well I’m not sure anyone had noticed, but over the last couple of months poor Tina hadn’t been feeling too good. Her eyesight had started to go and she had lost quite a bit of weight – which was such a shame.
Unfortunately, last week things got the better of her and she passed away. Its not something I’d normally put on here but I suddenly realised that Tina had been around ever since most of you guys has known me and so I thought you might like to know.
It seems forever since we had her as it must be going back about 12-13 years. Is hard to picture her not around and its certainly going to be a lot quieter round here.
So who’s up for a PS3 then?Last week the glorious PS3 was given a final release date and cost for all us in the UK that have been waiting in anticipation. That date was March the 23rd and the cost…. well …. a very steep £425.
Now I’m not sure about everybody else, but I nearly fell off my chair when I heard the news…. £425 … what were they thinking. I thought the Xbox 360 was still quite expensive, but when you add a couple of games and an extra controller your going to be hitting about £560 for the unit. That’s a ridicules cost to get on the Hi-def gaming wagon and I can’t see the gamers going for it.
What was more striking about the price is that when Jacqui and I were in Japan just before Christmas the 60GB unit that were getting over here was only selling for about £299. Now I appreciate Sony will have to add on shipping, taxation and promotional costs but dam…. £125 extra over here is unjustified.
I’m sure James could shed more light about the response from the gamers out there but I think its going to take Sony a long time to recover from the PS3 mess!
Let us know what you think.
TypicalJust as we we’d packing up to head back to the UK, the heavens opened and about 6 inches dropped over night. Such an irony, but at least we managed to steal a couple of inches of powder snow before we left.
Lets hope it’s a bit colder next year…. and while were on the subject, who’s up for next year?
1月21日 We resorted to a snow danceWell after five days of just slight snow coverage on the slopes we were finally blessed with 2-3 inches of snow this afternoon. Suffice to say that we paid a high price for this snow as we had to watch Matt’s very disturbing snow dance last night.
It was worth it though as the powdered snow made turning and weaving a breeze….
I’ve put some more pictures up for you guys to take a look at and I’ll be putting some videos on tomorrow of todays action. ;)
Btw, for all those that are interested to see where we are at the moment you’ll find details on Matt’s parents place and the mountain were taking over on their web sites.
1月19日 The Tokyo we never saw!!!Here is a stunning night shot picture of the Tokyo skyline that was recently taken using a camera that takes advantage of a High Dynamic Range. This feature allows for a greater depth of picture, removing some of the shadowing from a traditional night shot image. Lets just hope they put this feature in the next crop of digital cameras.
The shot was taken from Jeansnow’s blog site which is definitely worth a look.
Nokia's VisionWith Apple’s recent revelations of a touch sensitive user programmable future for the phone, its was interesting that Nokia recently revealed a similar Vision this week.
Nokia’s always pointed towards a smartphone future as this is evident from its recent crop of series 60 and communicator series phones, but it will be interesting to see if their five year vision plays out.
For all you Nokia fans you might want to check out their short video.
1月18日 Switzerland is where the action isAnyone who has ever been to Matt’s place in Switzerland more than once will know that the year drags like a 5 year old waiting for Christmas to come. You wait all year for just a couple of days off freedom, hoping that there will be plenty of snow for a decent couple of days.
Well were back again for what will be our third year now and we’ve pushed the boat out to try and get 7 days boarding in this year. For anyone that’s not quite up to speed, Matt’s parents have a lovely flat on the side of a mountain in Switzerland that we use as a base of operations for a weeks worth of snow boarding once a year.
So anyhow, back to the snow….. last year we were lucky that there was about a foots worth before we landed but this year the alps are a bit short. There is enough for a good days boarding but were hoping that the next couple of days will bring a decent covering.
As the weather is not great at the moment I haven’t taken many snaps but I’ll leave you with some of the highlights of last year. There will be more to come…
1月9日 The iPhone is ComingApple announced only last week that their last 30 years were just the beginning! This caused quite a stir in the industry and the rumor mill went into meltdown over the last couple of days with speculation of what they might be releasing in their upcoming MacWorld Expo. The video iPod, the iPhone or Apples UMPC? Well this afternoon Jobs really fucked with the competition as they announced all 3 products in one device….
The unoriginally named iPhone.
And what a product it is…. 8Mb of memory to house your music and video collection on a slim and compact touch screen device that houses one of the worlds most user friendly interfaces. Unlike most overly complicated smart phones that try to do too much, Apple has kept the basics like phone calls, texts and email as simple as ever while combining some of the simplicity of their much popular video iPod software.
And they didn’t just stop at that, inspired by the motion sensory friendly Wii they have added a sensor that automatically changes the aspect ratio of the screen when the unit is tilted on its side. Plus while looking through your music collection you can search by album art like flicking through your cd collection. Genius.
Although two years in the making, this has defiantly been worth it and Apple are onto a real cracker here. Its not released until Christmas time which is a shame, but it will be interesting to see what the like of SE, Nokia, and Microsoft say to this announcement.
Video link of the software after the jump.
Peeking inside stuffFor all those that enjoyed the sneak peek inside the PSP, DS, and iPods earlier in the year I thought you might like to take a look at this seasons much talked about products. I present to you a look inside the PS3, iPod Nano Mk2 and the very small iPod Shuffle Mk 2.
Enjoy…
1月8日 Just when you thought it was safe to buy a 360I smiled in with pure glee the other day as I just happen to catch what looked like a spy shot of the back of a revamped Xbox 360. There’s no official news at present but according to the very well respected gadget site Engadget the mark 2 360 will incorporate a larger hard drive (120Gb), HDMI digital out (allowing for full high deff viewing) and maybe the promise of an internal HD-DVD drive.
This would be quite interesting, as not only would this be a fantastic update to the very successful 360 platform to combat the newly released Wii and upcoming PS3, but it also might broaden the appeal with the promise of Sky+ style PVR recording capabilities. Microsofts trouble would be that if they make the update too advanced though they risk shooting themselves in the foot, by severely pissing off the very loyal and recent festive customers.
Of course this is all circumstantial at the moment, but lets hope that an announcement is made at the worlds largest electronics expo in Vegus this week (CES). Or if not, some of the fear from tomorrows MacWorld Expo might push forward an official announcement.
In the mean time I might hold off buying my 360 for a month or so just to hear what the new system is like. Plus, I’m a bit cleared out since xmas.
Let us know what you die hard 360 fans think…

1月5日 Happy New YearWell I hope everyone had a cracking new year!!!
Jacqui and I spent the night on the bank of the Thames with a couple of guys from FFAF. We froze our asses off for the rare chance to see the new years fireworks spectacular that took place in front of the London Eye. Although the display only lasted ten minutes it was well worth the two hours wait as they were truly awesome this year.
Videos will be coming soon if you guys want to keep your eyes posted, I just need to sort the file size before I can get it on You Tube.
As for resolutions…. Well I did make a couple that involved been more proactive and healthier but we’ll see how I get on with those. How about you guys… did you make any?
Happy New Year…. Now there’s only a couple of years till 2010… scary shit!
New Years ResolutionsIts been way too long since I graced these pages with any exciting text, but the other day I made a resolution to spend less time dosing on my computer, so here goes….. :)
Although uni work finished some time ago now it’s been hard to spend excess time in front of the computer when the sun is shining, so there hasn’t been many updates since the start of the summer. So now that the weather has turned I thought it would be a great idea to overhaul the site a bit to add some new life to it, so expect to see all sorts of articles and pictures over the next coming weeks.
Hope you enjoy it and let us know what you think… 4月5日 For the inner kid in youFor anyone that’s into their animation or just wondered how CGI flicks are put together, then you might want to check out the 20 years of Pixar animation exhibition at the Science Museum.
I’ve got a bit too much going on at the moment but I’m defiantly going to check it out before the 10th June. Do let us know if you get to see it.
3月29日 Deal Or No Deal DayJust to remind anyone that might be interested, the Deal or No Deal shows that we went to see will be airing tonight and tomorrow at around 4:30 on Channel 4. You’ll find the old man opening a box today and muggings here opening one tomorrow.
Let us know what you think guys…. (as yes I know I look ruff… ;)
3月8日 Peeking inside stuffHave you ever wondered what they actually put in that shiny iPod of yours? Well recently I’ve been a bit of a mission to find out just whats underneath the cover of an iPod Video, Nano, PSP and the new DS Lite. I think you’ll be surprised, especially at the PSP as they must be a nightmare to assemble.
